FAQ
Questions owners ask
before working together.
Here are straight answers to what owners ask before booking a strategy session. I keep it simple so you can decide if we're a fit.
What is a fractional CFO, and who do you work with?
A fractional CFO provides senior finance judgment sized to the actual work. Owners often need this judgment far more than they need full-time headcount. I read the numbers forward, own the cash view, pressure-test big decisions, and tell you the truth early. Gevity Advisors serves U.S. small businesses with $1M to $20M in annual revenue and 1 to 50 employees.
How does an engagement start?
You can take the five-question Gevity Score or book a short strategy session. A contact form message goes straight to me, not a sales team. Every engagement starts with a diagnostic before any ongoing commitment. The final scope and price for the diagnostic are confirmed in the strategy session.
What is the CFO Diagnostic?
The CFO Diagnostic is a fixed-scope, senior read of your finances. It covers your cash and margin, plus runway and risk. You get a forward-looking 13-week cash view, plus your top risks ranked and explained. We walk through a prioritized working plan toward your first 90 days on a 60-minute readout call. A licensed CPA signs off on the work. Sometimes the honest answer is that you don't need ongoing help yet.
What do you need from me?
No commitment and no NDA are needed to start the conversation. For the diagnostic, we look at your actual numbers together in a focused working session, and you stay in the loop the whole way. Then we walk through what I found on the 60-minute readout call. A professional relationship begins only with a signed engagement agreement.
What is the difference between a bookkeeper, a controller, and a CFO?
A bookkeeper records the past accurately. A controller protects the present by ensuring numbers are right and on time. A CFO reads the future to guide cash, customers, and key decisions. Keep your bookkeeper for clean books, then add senior judgment on top.
Will my numbers stay confidential?
Client information is handled under the professional confidentiality obligations that apply to CPA practice. In an engagement, your financial records are used only to perform that work and are shared only with service providers bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations, or where required by law or valid legal process. Your information is never sold or shared with advertisers. These practices describe how we operate, and no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Using this website or the contact form does not create a confidential or privileged communication. A professional relationship arises only upon a signed engagement agreement.
