Controller
A controller oversees the close and internal controls to help keep your accounting accurate, on time, and protected.
The controller sits between the bookkeeper, who records transactions, and the CFO, who plans ahead. This role focuses on the present state of your finances. The question is whether the numbers are right, on time, and protected.
Tasks include running or reviewing the month-end close. The controller checks reconciliations and journal entries for errors. They produce financial statements so you know where you stand. They also set internal controls, such as approvals and separation of duties.
In smaller businesses, this is often a part-time role. It might be a hat someone wears rather than a full-time position.
