Fractional CFO

A fractional CFO is a finance executive who provides part-time senior finance guidance to businesses.

This role offers senior finance judgment without a full-time hire. The work typically covers cash forecasting, financing and bank conversations, pricing and margin analysis, and support on big decisions. The work builds directly on accurate books kept by your bookkeeper. It does not replace the bookkeeper’s work but uses it to inform bigger decisions.

A fractional CFO also prepares reporting for owners and lenders. Pricing models vary from hourly rates to monthly retainers or fixed-fee projects. Businesses use this arrangement when they want part-time senior finance help rather than a full-time CFO.

Credentials can differ widely across the market. A CPA license is one credential, and it can be checked in a state board of accountancy’s public lookup.
